And one 2014 study suggested that cannabis might be effective in targeting brain tumors, though far more research is needed to replicate those results. For example, a 2015 study found that cannabis could be effective in treating schizophrenia. Some states allow patients with HIV/AIDs, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or even Crohn’s disease to obtain medical cannabis. That will usually entail children with epileptic conditions, or sometimes cancer patients who use cannabis to ease the side effects of chemotherapy or radiation. A longing for bhang foretells happiness.

The development of innovative medical devices and therapies with unmatched precision and specificity has been driven by advancements in biotechnology and nanotechnology. Insights into the types of injuries and illnesses that affected ancient populations (as well as the treatment methods employed), can similarly be gained from evidence of fractures, infections, and other skeletal abnormalities. Acting as intermediaries between the spiritual and physical realms, traditional healers, also known as shamans, utilized incantations, ceremonies, and herbs to heal illnesses and restore community and individual balance. A wide range of practices involved in diagnosing — treating, and preventing illness and disease are included under medical techniques and therapies. Pain relief (inflammation treatment), digestive problems, and spiritual rituals were the purposes for which it was utilized. Cannabis persists in connecting ancient wisdom with modern healthcare, bolstered by contemporary scientific validation of its historical applications.

The discovery of artemisinin illustrates how TCM constitutes a great store of knowledge about natural products, such as Chinese herbs, and holds much future promise. Artemisinin is known as qinghaosu in Chinese (and its study has made significant progress), including the synthesis of new artemisinin analogs and derivatives, and research efforts into the biological activities and related mechanisms. That study focused on 122 compounds (80% of which were found to be related to pharmaceutical effects in folk medicine), and it was determined that these compounds originated from 94 plant species . The aim of that study was to determine whether TM really had inspired modern drug discoveries and whether there was any correlation between the current use of various compounds and their application in TM.

A Sacred Herb with Ancient Roots

The context of this evidence dictates that programming not be undertaken irreverent of the spiritual and traditional element, or, as one qualitative study title directly calls out, “Please Don’t Just Hang a Feather on a Program or Put a Medicine Wheel on Your Logo and Think ‘Oh Well, This Will Work…”45 They address this unexpected result in their discussion by outlining how their cultural advisory board members noted that once the intervention ended, it likely meant the participants no longer had the alternative wellness trends across the UK protection of TCP participation. The Dickerson et al. ‘s31 RCT study (for example), found lower rates of drinking and past 30-day marijuana use among the TCP-based treatment participants, but this trend reverses by the 3-month follow-up. Most substance abuse research examines the deficits, risks, and challenges within AIAN communities.40–42 This research currently fuels health policy and, subsequently, funding. Specifically (the researchers and staff involved in the study knew which participants were receiving the intervention during the trial), and it was not clear from the narrative whether the participants also knew.

As we continue to explore the therapeutic potential of cannabis in modern society — it’s crucial to acknowledge and honor the wisdom of indigenous peoples who have stewarded the plant for generations. In today’s modern world, there is much that we can learn from indigenous wisdom and traditional healing practices surrounding cannabis. As interest in cannabis continues to grow around the world, it’s essential to recognize and respect the cultural heritage of indigenous peoples who have been stewards of the plant for centuries. These traditional healing practices have been passed down through generations and continue to play a vital role in many indigenous communities today.

Amounts of specific cannabinoids due to variations in soil (temperature), humidity, and other growth conditions. Some of these studies suggest that cannabinoids could be used as the basis for developing new, highly specific medicines with fewer side effects. But for marijuana and its constituent chemicals, no one can reliably predict which way that balance will tip for a specific patient.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a game-changer, revolutionizing the study and practice of traditional healing systems. A remarkable and rapid modernization of the ways traditional medicine is being studied can help realize the potential and promise of traditional medicine and traditional knowledge, for health and well-being. WHO encourages countries that do not already have them to establish integrated pharmacovigilance systems for both conventional pharmaceuticals and TCIM products. Many countries have a long and rich heritage of traditional medicines and have integrated it into their national health-care delivery systems to varying degrees.

Another challenge is the lack of recognition and protection of indigenous intellectual property rights and traditional knowledge related to cannabis. Imposition of federal cannabis laws in Canada and other countries may restrict or regulate the production — distribution, and use of cannabis, which can impact indigenous communities’ ability to fully engage in their traditional practices. One of the main challenges is the imposition of external laws and regulations that may not align with indigenous customs and practices. Despite the growing recognition of indigenous cannabis use, there are still challenges that indigenous communities face in accessing and utilizing cannabis. In addition to medicinal and economic uses, indigenous peoples in Canada have also been using cannabis for cultural and ceremonial purposes. These initiatives provide opportunities for indigenous peoples to benefit from the cannabis industry and create economic development that is culturally and environmentally sustainable.

Cannabinoid-based medicine has been approved as a treatment option for nausea and vomiting in relation to chemotherapy, pain, and spasticity in patients with multiple sclerosis and as an antiepileptic for rare paediatric patients with epilepsies . To be more specific — increases in the prevalence of cannabis use globally could potentially reflect multiple complex changes in the cultural, societal, and legal landscape surrounding cannabis . In order to understand complex and bidirectional relationships between cannabis use and cultures — we recommend the use of cross-cultural frameworks for the study of cannabis use and its consequences and to inform vulnerable people, clinical practitioners, and legislators from different world regions.

In states where medical marijuana is legalized, there seems to be general consensus that it’s quite helpful in treating a variety of ailments.
